Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then found numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
